Mohammed Ahmad Al-Saadi, general manager of Qatar-based Al Watania Steel, told SteelOrbis during the the SteelOrbis Fall '11 Conference and 65th IREPAS Meeting in St. Petersburg that the construction of the company's new steel plant in Qatar has reached its final phase and the plant is set to begin production by early 2012. The plant in question, which has a annual capacity of 400,000 mt will produce light sections, wire rod and rebar in coil - this last product being produced for the first time in the country. Primarily planning to adress the lively demand in the Qatari market, the company also aims to export steel products to neighboring countries, where rapid growth of demand is observed.

The plant is designed to produce rebar in coils of 8-10-12-14-16 mm in thickness and wire rods from 5.5 mm to 11 mm.

Mr. Al-Saadi also stated that there is another investment belonging to the group but with the different name of ‘Arkan Al Solb' in Riyad, Saudi Arabia. The investment is planned to be completed in the second half of 2013 and includes a rebar rolling mill with an annual capacity of 500,000 mt and a meltshop with a capacity of 700,000 mt per year
