Private equity firm acquires Michigan steel service center

Illinois-based private equity firm Union Partners I LLC has acquired Michigan-based steel service center Berg Steel Corp. for an undisclosed sum, the company announced Wednesday, adding that there would be no interruption in service to Berg Steel's customers.

Union Partners portfolio investments in the steel industry include Mapes & Sprowl Steel LLC, Chicago Steel Holdings LLC, JIT Steel Services LLC, JIT Steel Transport, Cortran LLC, and Opus Metals LLC.

"This acquisition is a perfect complement to our Michigan infrastructure in Grand Rapids, Gibraltar and Farmington Hills; and we are excited to welcome Berg Steel to our family of companies" said Paul Douglass of Union Partners.
