UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that it has received an order from Russian mining and steel group Mechel to modernize a LD (BOF) converter at the steel works of Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK) in Russia. The project includes the replacement of worn-out equipment, a further capacity increase and a new gas cleaning plant to reduce converter emissions. This will be the third converter that Primetals Technologies has modernized at Chelyabinsk steel works.

The new converter is part of an expansion program that includes increasing the annual production capacity of the converter steel works.
