POSCO commissions new sheet processing center

South Korean Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO) commissioned its second sheet processing center in Thailand yesterday in order to provide steel sheets for the automobile industry. The new sheet processing center, POS-TPC, is located in Rayong Amata industrial city, 140 km southwest of Bangkok. The plant will initially process 120,000 metric tons of steel sheets per annum but the company is hoping to increase the capacity to 200,000 metric tons per annum later to meet Thai customers' demand for small passenger cars. POSCO has another sheet processing center in Bangpakong industrial complex near to Bangkok. The company also owns the largest sheet processing center in China and it is planning to commission another processing center in Nagoya, Japan. POSCO plans to increase its total sheet production for automotives to 6.5 million metric tons per annum by 2008.
