The Port of Los Angeles reported a 32 percent year-on-year increase in container imports in June, and exports were up 13 percent.   The port's overall traffic, including empty containers, saw a 32 percent boost compared to the same month last year, and for the first half of the year, traffic increased by 15 percent compared to the same period of 2009.

At the Port of Long Beach, container imports rose 27 percent year-over-year in June, while exports only increased by 2 percent.   As for overall traffic, the port saw a 26 percent year-on-year increase, and a 20 percent rise for the first six months of the year compared to last year.

Additionally, employment demand at the ports increased so much that union employment had to be supplemented with hundreds of part-time workers, for the first time since the economic crisis.
