During the Port of Houston Authority's monthly board meeting on Tuesday, Port Authority CEO Alec Dreyer said that after a recovery of steel imports in the last half of 2010, he expects further growth in the port's steel and container business.

According to Port Authority officials, the port handled an overall 31.3 million tons of cargo in 2010, a 9 percent increase from 2009.  Barge and ship traffic also increased year-over-year, especially in the steel and container sectors.  For the full year 2010, the port moved 1.8 million container TEUs.
