Peruvian iron ore export prices, volumes decline in December

Peruvian iron ore export prices declined in December last year, according to figures released by the nation’s central bank, BCRP.

According to the Peruvian central bank, commodity prices in December reached $25.5/mt, down from $26.2/mt in November. December’s export price is the second lowest rate in the year, just behind October’s $25.1/mt price level.

On a year-on-year basis, Peruvian iron ore export prices diminished 35.4 percent, from $39.5/mt.

Iron ore exports volumes in December diminished to 800,000 mt, from 1 million in November, but rose when compared to the 700,000 mt of the commodity exported in the same month of 2014.

As for the whole year, Peruvian iron ore export volumes totaled 11.4 million mt, same as in 2014. Average export prices declined from $56.9/mt in 2014 to $30.6/mt in 2015.
