Peruvian miners at the Chinese owned iron ore mine, Shougang Hierro Peru, initiated a strike on Monday, suspending all operations at the Lima mine as they demand an increase in their salaries.

Julian Sulca, a spokesperson from the company's labor union, said that approximately 1,200 workers are striking, halting all of the mine's operations.

In mid- July, workers Shougang Peru initiated a strike to increase their salaries. As a result, the firm and employees came up with a resolution and resumed operations. Nevertheless, now the labor union is saying that the firm is not following the amended contract, and they are striking for a second time.

Shougang Hierro Peru, located in southern Peru, is a subsidiary of the Chinese firm, Shougang Group.
