By May 18 most manufacturing units of Panchenggang, one of Panzhihua Steel's production bases, had been successfully put back into production.

The earthquake on May 12 which had its epicenter at Wenchuan had a significant impact on Panchenggang's various manufacturing facilities, causing a complete halt in production. The company moved at once to ensure a recovery of production levels.

On May 13 the iron-making plant resumed operations at its blast furnaces and by May 15 the four blast furnaces reached normal production levels. The electrical furnace steelmaking plant resumed production at its 70-mt electrical furnace on the afternoon of May 14. The converter steelmaking plant has also performed well since resuming production on May 14. The company's wire rod plant, bar plant and special pipe processing plant subsequently posted a successful restart of operations.
