Steel fabricator O’Neal Manufacturing Services announced Friday plans to open a new plant on Nucor Steel’s Tuscaloosa property. The $7.115 million facility will have two plasma cutting lines for steel plate directly supplied by Nucor. Construction will begin in January and cccording to O’Neal, the plant is slated to open next summer.

The location was reportedly chosen to reduce transportation costs; additionally, scrap generated from O’Neal’s plate fabrication will be sold directly back to Nucor to be melted down into new steel plate.

O’Neal Manufacturing Services is a division of Birmingham, Alabama-based O’Neal Steel, with 85 facilities in 35 states and eight foreign countries.
