Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has stated that its Casting-Rolling Complex (CRC) has launched a new production unit specifically to produce scrap metal. With the unit's new equipment, CRC has already produced its first batch of 2Ash scrap metal, totaling 4,500 mt.

The production unit supplied by German-based Metso Lindemann, GmbH is used for high-tech processing of scrap metal through fragmentation and removal of non-ferrous impurities. The new unit has the capacity to produce one million mt of fragmented scrap a year. So far, RUB 1.8 billion ($55.8 million) has been invested in the program.

The new equipment will enable CRC to improve the quality of raw material and reduce costs. Deep recycling and use of special technologies for scrap grading, cleaning, and removing non-ferrous impurities will enable the company to manufacture higher quality products.
