The Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced the startup of the cold trials at its new thin slab casting machine, located in its smelting-rolling workshop.

Following the completion of the cold trials of equipment on June 16, the new slab caster will commence production of 1,800 mm wide and 70-90 mm thick slabs.

The equipment for the new slab caster was supplied by Italian plantmaker Danieli.

Together with the new caster, OMK will also commission its new blast furnace, ladle furnace and other equipment at its smelting-rolling workshop.
