US-based steel producer Nucor has announced that it is planning to build a state-of-the-art plate mill in the Midwest. According to the company statement, Nucor will invest $1.35 billion in the mill, while production is scheduled to begin in 2022, with a 1.2 million mt capacity per year. The project is expected to create 400 full-time jobs.

The company also stated that the new plate mill will produce cut-to-length, coiled, heat-treated, and discrete plate products which Nucor  does not offer at the moment. Nucor currently operates plate mills in North Carolina, Alabama and Texas.
