In a complaint filed in Arkansas federal court last week, Nucor sued to block construction of Big River Steel’s $1.3 billion mill, accusing them of violating obligations under the Clean Air Act.

The 50-page complaint alleged that pollutants from the not-yet-constructed mill would harm the air quality in Mississippi County, Arkansas, where Nucor has a facility. “If the air quality goes down, the productivity of Nucor’s workforce will likewise go down, hindering Nucor’s ability to generate revenue and decreasing the value of Nucor’s Arkansas facilities,” the complaint said.

Nucor has filed numerous complaints and appeals against Big River Steel since the project was announced.
