Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) has announced that it expects to resume operations in September this year at the plate rolling line at its Oita Works, which was damaged due to a recent fire at the mill.

The company stated that it will likely take about eight months for the resumption of operations because of reconstruction work. Concerning supply of steel plate products to its customers, NSSMC’s steelworks at Kashima, Kimitsu and Nagoya are increasing their production so as to make up for part of the lost capacity.

Meanwhile, the company has resumed operations at the finishing lines which were not affected by the fire.
