Vancouver, Canada-headquartered pipe manufacturer Northwest Pipe Co. has announced the acquisition of one of its suppliers and the signing two multi-million dollar water projects, all concluded in the past week.
Northwest Pipe has, for an undisclosed amount, bought Singapore-based Byard Ltd, a leading designer and manufacturer of spiral pipe mills, with over fifty installations of mills in many of the world's leading spiral pipe facilities, including seven in Northwest Pipe Company itself.
In addition, Northwest Pipe has also signed a $9 million agreement to supply pipe for a water project in Los Angeles, California, and a $9.5 million agreement to supply pipe for a similar project in Texas.
Commenting on the acquisition of Byard, Brian Dunham, president and chief executive of Northwest Pipe, said, "The acquisition of Byard will help Northwest Pipe to meet its current demand and continue to grow. There are three reasons behind this acquisition. One, they've got a nice business. Second, we're going to continue to upgrade our own equipment and our own plants in the US. We're convinced that Byard is going to do that in the most cost-effective process. Third, they have been doing business internationally for years."
Northwest Pipe employs 50 people at its Vancouver headquarters and 1,200 companywide.
