Wisconsin-based Northern Steel Castings has given its employees notice that it intends to suspend production at its three plants, according to the city Mayor Zach Vruwink.  The company, which employs approximately 100 people, makes steel castings for equipment used in such applications as mining, construction, railroad hydraulics and oil fields.

The company will keep its shipping operation open for a slightly longer period, but the exact length of time is still unknown, according to Vruwink.

The company has two foundries in Wisconsin Rapids. The third plant is in Weyauwega.
