Sandvik Mining and Construction, a business division within the Swedish high-technology engineering group Sandvik, has annouced that it has signed a contract with Erts- en Kolen Overslagbedrijf Maasvlakte (EKOM) for the supply of one shiploader at Europees Massagoed Overslagbedrijf (EMO) BV terminal at Maasvlakte Rotterdam, the Netherlands. EMO BV terminal is the largest dry bulk terminal in Europe and is specialised in the unloading and storage of iron ore and coal.

Accordingly, due to the port extension at Maasvlakte in Rotterdam the new Sandvik shiploader with a capacity of 6,000 metric tons per hour (6,600 short tons per hour) will replace an existing shiploader for loading of coal and iron ore vessels.

The contract became effective in November 2010 and start of operation is scheduled for May 2012.

Unloading about 35 million mt per year, EMO terminal is a vital part of the supply chain of iron ore and coal for the European steel and electricity industries.
