Motor vehicle sales in Turkey up 11.6 percent in January-June

 According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first six months of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 401,325 units, rising by 11.6 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Meanwhile, in June Turkey's motor vehicle sales saw an decrease of 8.5 percent month on month and were up four percent compared to the same month of 2012, totaling 78,105 units.

 In the first six months of this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 292,106 units, rising by 19.5 percent year on year. In June, passenger car sales in Turkey rose by 14.6 percent year on year to 58,290 units, down 6.6 percent compared to May.

In the first six months, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 420,857 units, rising by 6.9 percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 233,032 units, rising by 5.2 percent, both year on year. The country exported 166,936 small trucks in the period in question, up four percent year on year. The revenue for total motor vehicle and component exports in the January-June period amounted to $10.5 billion, rising by 4.8 percent, while the revenue from passenger car exports totaled $3.5 billion, rising by 7.5 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2012.

In the first six months of 2013, Turkey's passenger car imports rose by 30.9 percent year on year, totaling 228,420 units. In the given period, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 276,048 units, rising by 24.9 percent year on year.
