MOT: China aims to invest RMB 3.5 trillion in railways in 2016-20

On December 29, China’s State Council released a white paper for development of transportation in China during the 13th five-year plan period (2016-20), according to which China will accelerate construction and development of railways and plans to invest RMB 3.5 trillion ($0.50 trillion) in its railways, as announced by China’s Ministry of Transportation (MOT).

“By the year of 2020, China’s operating railway mileage is expected to amount to 150,000 kilometers and its operating high-speed railway mileage will total 30,000 kilometers”, said an MOT official.
