MOC: Groundless to consider China’s steel exports as dumping

Shen Danyang, spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC), has commented at a press conference that globalization has closely linked the world’s steel industries together, while they are currently faced with a common issue, i.e., overcapacity. He continued by saying that some countries frequently exert restrictions on China’s steel product exports, remarking that this is absolutely not the way to resolve problems. He stated that it is groundless and makes no senses to consider China’s exports of steel products as dumping.

The MOC spokesman went on to say that the Chinese government has always advocated a cooperative approach to resolving problems in the steel industry. He said he hoped that members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) would abide by WTO rules and would employ trade remedy measures in a prudent and standard manner. In addition, he stated, the Chinese steel industry should actively respond to litigation and maintain its legitimate interests in accordance with WTO rules.
