Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ) has announced that it has temporarily stopped the production of crude steel at its electro-smelting shop, since for the manufacture of rolled steel products it is currently using 150 x 150 mm square billets supplied by Russian steel producer Oskol Metallurgical Plant (OEMK), a subsidiary of Metalloinvest.

Additional reasons for the crude steel production stoppage are MMZ's needs to accumulate scrap and to carry out some repair works at its electro-smelting shop. Currently, MMZ's scrap reserves amount to 61,000 mt,

According to the preliminary data, up to March 17 MMZ's rolling mill shop, which has a capacity of 500,000 mt per year, manufactured 21,212 mt of rolled steel products, of which 17,890 mt were delivered to customers.
