Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ) has released its production results for the first month of 2009.

According to the preliminary data, during the period in question, the MMZ registered a decrease of  65.4 percent year on year in its crude steel output to 28,459 mt, and a 46.65 percent drop in its rolled steel products to 39,058 mt, including 26,612 mt of rebar and 12,446 mt of wire rod - down 30.8 percent and 64.2 percent respectively.

In January 2009, MMZ's deliveries saw a decrease of 46.36 percent to 39,460 mt of steel products compared to 73,562 mt in January 2008.

According to the company's release, in January 2009, MMZ's production results were affected both by Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute and by the weak prices and demand for steel products in the international markets. However, the company managed to ensure production under the already placed orders.
