The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has completed another stage in the acceptance of its rolled steel products by South Korean car company Hyundai-Kia, which in the second part of 2010 intends to open a new car manufacturing facility in the St. Petersburg region, Russia.
Accordingly, beginning in May 2008, MMK delivered to Hyundai-Kia full-size samples of hot rolled (SPHD-P, SAPH370-P, SAPH440-P), cold rolled (SPRC340) and hot dip galvanized (SGACC) steel products for laboratory investigations and test production of auto parts. Acceptance for MMK'S SGACC and SPRC340 rolled steel grades has already been received.
In March 2009, MMK produced and delivered to South Korea the last samples of cold rolled (SPCD) and hot dip galvanized (HX220YD, DX54D, DX56D) steel products requested by Hyundai-Kia.
Moreover, MMK is currently completing the last stage of acceptance of its high stamping hot dip galvanized coils (DX54D) by German automobile producer Volkswagen AG. In addition, MMK has also delivered acceptance samples of hot and cold rolled steel products to such automakers as General Motors, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Nissan, and to such producers of automobile parts as Benteler Automobiltechnik GmbH and Valeo.
In 2008, MMK's shipments of steel products to companies from the automobile industry amounted to about 550,000 mt.
As a part of its earlier announced projects, MMK plans the construction of a new general purpose cold rolling facility and to organize the production of stamped and stamped-and-welded auto body parts in St. Petersburg.
