Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it plans to invest RUB 3.8 billion ($64.07 million) in environmental protection activities in the current year, the highest amount in recent years. Meanwhile, by 2025, MMK plans to invest more than RUB 35 billion ($590.13 million) in the realization of the group’s environmental policy, the key priority of which is the reduction of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere.
The company stated that for the current year the most significant areas for environmental investment include the completion of the reconstruction of the sulphur collection unit No. 2 in its sintering plant, the construction of aspiration systems for foundries at blast furnaces No. 9 and No. 10, the reconstruction of gas cleaning systems on a dual-shaft steelmaking unit and steel finishing units in the electric steel smelting shop, and the beginning of the reconstruction of the water circulating supply system at MMK.
