The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has restarted the construction of its polymer coating line No. 2, comprising hot and cold laminators and an option for an embossing roll and a tension leveler.
The installation of MMK's coating line No. 2 was originally planned to begin in the autumn of 2008, but was delayed due to the worsening of the global and national economy, and the decrease of the company's output.
Currently, MMK is finishing the construction of the foundation for the equipment, of which about 70 percent has already been received. The rest of the equipment will be received by the end of March, according to the supply contract with Italian engineering and equipment manufacturing company FATA Hunter.
The commissioning of MMK' second polymer coating line is scheduled for July 19 2009, on Metallurgists' Day in Russia.
Meanwhile, in March 2009 MMK's polymer coating line No. 1 is working at its full monthly capacity of 17,000 mt.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the commissioning of its second polymer coating line will allow MMK to step up the production of high quality color coated sheets to 400,000 mt per year, and to increase the share of its value added products.
