The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the completion of the ten-day repairs and innovation of its plate mill 4500.

The first in almost 30 years, the repairs in question included the adjustment and replacement of the mill's equipment. The main repair works were carried out on the steam engine.

Last year MMK's plate mill 4500, which is almost 100 years old, produced more than 300,000 mt of plate. With the commissioning of its second plate mill (mill 5000), which is currently under construction, MMK will become the most important producer of high quality flats for the pipe industry and for ship and bridge building in the Russian domestic market.
