MMK puts new slab mill in operation

Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works of Russia (MMK) has announced that a double-strand slab continuous casting mill was put in operation at the plant. The new mill was installed as a part of a program of creating a complex of steel casting production in the arc furnace workshop of MMK. The new mill will produce slabs of principally new quality of the section 250 x (1,250-2,350) mm. The slab length of all sections varies from 4,800 to 12,000 mm, including ’double length' slabs with a crosspiece. The total investment put in the installation of the new slab mill amounted to $18.5 million.
