The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the beginning of the installation of electric overhead travelling cranes at its plate mill 5000. In the scope of this work, MMK is to install a total of 26 cranes delivered by Chinese company  DHI-DCW Group.

MMK's plate mill 5000, one of the largest investment projects of this producer, will allow it to produce highly remunerative rolled plate with widths of up to 4,850 mm for the oil and gas industry, for bridge engineering and for ship and machine building. The production in question is also in high demand from large diameter pipe producers.

The annual production capacity of the plate mill 5000 is slated be about 1.5 million mt, including 0.3 million mt of heat treated sheet.

The mill is due to start production operations in the middle of 2009.
