MMK continues modernization of blast furnaces

The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it is continuing to modernize its blast furnaces with the aim of increasing their production capacities and reducing the use of raw materials.
 
During the last one and a half years, MMK replaced the loading equipment at three of its BFs - i.e. at BF No. 4, BF No. 6 and BF No. 9. The replacement of old raw material loading equipment with new equipment has allowed MMK to reduce the use of coke at these furnaces and also to increase their production capacities.

In addition, next year MMK plans to start modernization works at two other furnaces.

Currently, MMK is proceeding with the modernization of its BF No. 10, causing production at the furnace to be stopped for 55 days.
