Mexican conglomerate Frisa Steel, based in Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon, began construction of its new special bar quality (SBQ) plant, in the city of Garcia, Nuevo Leon.

The plant will produce SBQ in thickness size ranging from 3 to 16 inches. Frisa has four other steel plants and one in the US.

“The works have already started. They are for other production lines. The expansion of Frisa is coming strong,” Raul Nefthali Chavez Rodriguez, director of García's Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism, told SteelOrbis in a telephone interview.

Regarding the amount of the investment, the Chavez Rodriguez said “they did not mention it because they are analyzing what type of machinery they will install. They are in negotiations (with the machinery supplier), which is why they did not mention the amount of the investment.”

Chavez Rodriguez spoke with company executives a few days ago, at the ceremony to lay the first stone for the construction of the new plant.

According to Chavez Rodriguez, it is estimated that the plant will begin operations next year. He also said that Frisa is one of the most sought-after companies to work with because of the "good" wages it pays its workers.
