Mexican sales of new vehicles up 35.6 percent in September

New vehicle sales in Mexico increased 35.6 percent, year-over-year, in September to 118,038 units. It is the seventeenth consecutive annual increase. Considering only the months of September, the annual increase recorded is the highest in the last 25 years, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency Inegi.

Of the total volume sold, five companies accounted for 56.3 percent. Nissan contributed 17.1 percent of the total. General Motors contributed 13.7 percent, Volkswagen 11.0 percent, Toyota contributed 7.4 percent and Stellantis 7.2 percent.

The sales increases of the Chinese company Chirey (Cherey Automobile) stand out with a 205 percent increase, Nissan with 86.4 percent, Volkswagen with 81.2 and Toyota with 73.3 percent more compared to sales in September of last year.

From January to September, 975,841 units were sold, 24.9 percent or 194,780 more vehicles compared to the same period last year. This annual percentage increase is the highest in the last 23 years.

Inegi’s information comes from the records of 23 companies affiliated with the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) and two other non-associated companies.
