After two straight months of contraction, heavy truck production in Mexico registered an increase of 8.5 percent, year-over-year, in October with 18,756 units, according to SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics office Inegi.
Of the total production, 94.5 percent was concentrated in three companies: Freightliner with 59.8 percent, International Truck with 26.1 percent and Paccar's unit in Mexico (Kenworth) with 8.6 percent.
Exports of heavy trucks also broke the two-month decline by registering an increase of 1.8 percent in October, compared to the same month last year. 14,470 units were exported.
Of the total exports of heavy trucks, three companies concentrate 94.5 percent of the total. Freightliner contributed 59.8 percent, International Truck contributed 26.1 percent and Kenworth 8.6 percent.
The accumulated production in the first 10 months was 186,830 units, 13.9 percent more compared to the same period last year.
Exports totaled 149,066 trucks, 9.1 percent more than the January-October period of last year.
Retail sales in the Mexican market increased 40.3 percent, year-over-year, in October to 4,686 units. In the accumulated 10 months, 42,704 units were sold, 33.9 percent more compared to the same period last year.
Inegi's production information comes from the 10 companies affiliated with the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) and from the unaffiliated company, Sparta Motors, which is owned by the Chinese company Shaanxi Automobile.
