Mexican light vehicle sales up 15.4 percent in January

Mexican light vehicle sales by local automakers in January increased 15.4 percent, year-on-year, according to data released by the nation’s automotive industry, AMIA, and the Mexican association of cars distributors, AMDA.

According to the joint press release, Nissan accounted for 25.5 percent of Mexican total light vehicle sales in the first month of the year, while Volkswagen and General Motors accounted for other 16.1 and 15.8 percent share, respectively.

Total light vehicle sales in January reached 119,693 units, 15,996 more units when compared to the same month of the year prior.

Sales of light vehicles by Renault and Volvo in January declined by 4.1 and 18.9 percent, year-on-year, to 2,095 and 73 units, respectively.

However, light vehicles by Honda rose 61.8 percent in January, year-on-year, to 2,462 units. Altogether, Nissan, Volkswagen and General Motors sold 68,800 units in January 2016, up from 64,056 units in the same period of the year prior.
