Cold rolled coil (CRC) was the second most consumed finished steel product in Mexico with 337,000 metric tons (mt) in January, 12.4 percent or 47,000 mt less compared to the first month of 2022, according to data by the Chamber Mexican Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero), reviewed by SteelOrbis.
With 255,000 mt of production, CRC is the fourth largest manufactured steel finished product in Mexico. This volume represented 75.7 percent of the consumption of the same month. Its production decreased 12,000 mt or 4.7 percent compared to January 2022.
In the international market, Mexican CRC more than doubled its exports. In January, 22,000 mt was exported, a volume that represented an increase of 119.2 percent, year-over-year. Despite the strong increase, CRC was the sixth largest export product.
Imports decreased 18.2 percent, totaling 104,000 mt, the second most imported finished product. In the first month of the year, CRC import volume contributed 30.9 percent of total consumption.
According to another report by Canacero, in Mexico the three CRC producers in Mexico are AHMSA, Ternium and Talleres y Aceros (TYASA).
