The business confidence index (BCI) in Mexico decreased 1.4 percent, year-over-year, in April, marking the eleventh consecutive annual drop, according to data from the national statistics agency Inegi.
However, at 53.6 points, the BCI is the second consecutive month above 50 points, considered an expansion zone, after eight consecutive months below 50 points, an area of economic weakness.
The BCI, generated by opinion surveys of directors of companies in the manufacturing, construction, commerce and private non-financial services industries, on the economic situation of the country and its businesses.
In annual comparison, in April business confidence in the manufacturing industry increased 1.5 percent, in construction it fell 3.9 percent, in the commercial sector it decreased 9.5 percent and in private non-financial services it increased 1.6 percent.
