Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has announced that its subsidiary Korshunov Mining Plant has started operating a new repair facility for the repair of type 2 BC-105 dump cars, and has obtained a permit for the repaired dump cars to be used on Russian railways.

Korshunov Mining Plant will perform capital and depot service repairs of type 2 BC dump cars with carrying capacity of 105 tons, used by the plant for ore transportation from the Rudnogorsky and Tatyaninsky mines. Capital investment in the new repair facility has amounted to more than Ruble 42 million (approx. $1.35 million).

Previously dump cars repairs were performed at special institutions in Irkutsk city. The new repair facility will allow Korshunov Mining Plant to make savings from cars transportation to repairs location in the amount up to Ruble 5.5 million (approx. $176,500) per year.

The capacity of the new repair facility provides for Korshunov Mining Plant’s needs for repairs of a total of 180 type 2 BC dump cars per year.

“Starting this facility in line with our crisis management program implementation allows for significant optimization of our production costs. Currently, Korshunov Mining Plant is the only non-dedicated Russian enterprise authorized by Russian Railways to perform dump cars repairs and to use them on all Russian railways,” Mechel’s senior vice president Vladimir Polin commented.
