Mechel’s crude steel output down two percent in 2016

Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has announced that in the fourth quarter of 2016 its crude steel output increased by one percent to 1.13 million mt, while its pig iron output rose by eight percent to 1.04 million mt, both quarter on quarter. Mechel's run-of-mine coal production in the fourth quarter increased by one percent compared to the third quarter to 5.59 million mt.
 
In 2016, the company's crude steel output amounted to 4.25 million mt, falling two percent, while its pig iron output remained stable at 4.05 million mt, both year on year.
 
In the fourth quarter, Mechel’s coking coal concentrate sales amounted to 2.17 million mt, up seven percent compared to the previous quarter, while its coking coal concentrate sales in 2016 increased by five percent year on year to 8.66 million mt.
