Russian mining and steel group Mechel has announced that it is consolidating its product shipments within its subsidiary Mecheltrans. This will enable the company to cut overall transport costs by 3-10 percent depending on freight type.

Mecheltrans will oversee rail shipments of all products, with further transshipment at ports and delivery to end customers by internal river routes in Russia and Europe, by sea and by truck. Before, several of Mechel's enterprises made separate contracts with third-party transport companies to ship their products.
