Masteel set to increase wheel steel output

China’s Maanshan Iron and Steel Co. (Masteel) recently began a wheel steel productivity expansion project. The company plans to have a new wheel steel plant in operation by March 2006. The new plant would enlarge Masteel’s total wheel steel output to 800’000 units, thus further enhancing the company’s competitiveness in the international market for wheel steel. In addition to servicing the Chinese market, Masteel exports its wheel steel to more than 20 countries and territories. The company’s wheel steel enjoys great popularity in the international market, allowing Masteel to cooperate closely with companies like General Motors (GM).
