Marca Pais-Imagen de Mexico reported Thursday that Mexico's manufacturing sector grew substantially in May, particularly in the automotive sector.

Over 213,000 vehicles were manufactured in May throughout Mexico--19.4 percent more than in the same period in 2010 according to the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA). Marca Pais said that automotive production is poised to continue rising in Mexico with carmaker Mazda recently announcing plans to open a new plant in Guanajuato, Mexico this year.  Also last month, Mexico's total exports rose by 21.3 percent on a year-over-year basis.

Steel construction is also rising in Mexico, and earlier this month, Mexican President Felipe Calderon announced that South Korean steel giant POSCO will expand its steel plant in Altamira.
