As of December 8, 2006, Malaysia-based steel producer, Malayawata Steel Berhad, has officially changed its name to Ann Joo Steel Bhd. The company's name was changed so as to better reflect commitments following a voluntary general offer exercised in January 2006, which turned Malayawata into a subsidiary of Ann Joo Group. One of Malaysia's leading and diversified steel groups, Ann Joo Group comprises steel making, steel rolling, iron casting, steel stockist, trading and coil services in its activities. The newly-named Ann Joo Steel currently operates one DC arc furnace, and three rolling mills producing steel billets, bars and wire rods. At present, it is working towards acquiring hot metal making and charging technology to complement and enhance its existing assets in product quality and capacity. Malayawata was established in 1961 as the first integrated steel mill in South-East Asia.
