Moroccan steelmaker Maghreb Steel is holding negotiations with French automaker Renault to supply automotive steel to Renault's plants in Tangier-Melloussa and in Somaca in Casablanca as it seeks new opportunities in the automotive industry, according to media reports.

The French automaker stated that it is early to talk about an agreement as everything depends on the capacity of Maghreb Steel to meet its specifications.

Meanwhile, even in the event of an agreement, Maghreb Steel will not be the main supplier to Renault's plants in Morocco as global steelmaker ArcelorMittal supplies 80 percent of the total needs of the plants, while the remainder is provided by the Turkish group Erdemir.
