UK-based London Mining, a global diversified miner targeting the steel sector, announced on May 10 its production results for the first quarter of this year, reporting a total sales volume of 244,000 wet mt for the first quarter of 2011.

In the first three months of this year, the quarterly iron ore concentrate production at London Mining's Marampa mine in Sierra Leone increased significantly to 315,000 wet mt over the 20,000 wet mt recorded in the fourth quarter of 2011, which was the first quarter of production at the mine.

London Mining also higlighted that coking production has started in London Mining Colombia, a coking coal developer in Colombia. In the first quarter, the company produced 5,800 mt of coking coal, which was below expectations due to bad weather, but the firm continues to aim for a 200,000 mt per year run rate in line with previous guidance by the end of this year.
