Liberty Steel Group, the steel producing arm of GFG Alliance, has restarted a number of lines at its Italy-based subsidiary Liberty Magona, to support a number of healthcare and packaging customers, a company spokesperson has told SteelOrbis. The source added that the plant expects to return to full production in line with Italian government guidance.

According to market sources, Liberty Magona resumed production at its pickling, galvanizing and slitting lines on April 23, while it will restart its painting line on April 27, all at a reduced rate. The company should resume full production on May 4, unless the Italian government decides otherwise.

Liberty suspended operations at its Magona plant on March 23. Liberty Magona has a production capacity of 700,000 mt of galvanized and pre-painted steel per year and has more than 460 employees.
