Kobe Steel to produce a new class of steel sheet in US

Japan's Kobe Steel, already producing 80kg-class sheet in Japan, intends to become the first producer of this product in the US. Kobe Steel is planning to transfer the technology to its fifty fifty joint venture with US Steel, Pro-Tech, for the production of 80kg-class high tensile steel sheet product which is mainly used by auto manufacturers and launch production at the Ohio plant by the year end. A Kobe Steel official stated that production levels will depend on US manufacturers' demand and their customers will rather be the Japanese auto producers together with manufacturing plants in the US.
