Khuzestan Steel to expand capacity

Mr. Najm-al-Sadat, Managing Director of Iranian steelmaker Khuzestan Steel Company (Khuzestan Steel) has stated that one of the main priorities of his company for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2008 to March 20, 2009) is to achieve a production capacity of 3.2 million metric tons.

In the current Iranian year, three projects are expected to be implemented at Khuzestan Steel. These include Zamzam 2, which will expand the mill's sponge iron production capacity by 960,000 metric tons per year; the construction of a new steel producing facility with an annual capacity of 800,000 metric tons; and also the construction of a new mill for production of wide plates with an annual production capacity of 1.05 million metric tons. The latter mill will be the only rolling mill producing wide plates in the Middle East.
