In third quarter ending December 31 of the fiscal year 2012-13, Indian steelmaker JSW Steel Ltd’s crude steel production increased by eight percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

JSW produced 2.09 million mt of crude steel in the given quarter, compared to 1.94 million mt in the corresponding quarter of the last fiscal year. During the third quarter, JSW Steel produced 1.57 million mt of flat rolled products, up 13.9 percent, while its long rolled product output amounted to 480,000 mt, increasing by 31 percent, both compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

In the first nine months of FY 2012-13, JSW produced 6,4 million mt of crude steel, up 20 percent year on year. During the period in question, JSW’s flat steel production increased to 4.6 million mt up by 20 percent, while its long steel production increased by 29 percent to 1.36 million mt, both year on year.

The capacity utilization was lower during the third quarter compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year due to shortage and inferior quality of iron ore used in furnaces.
