JSW Steel Ltd, one of India’s largest steelmakers, has posted a 54 percent year-on-year growth in crude steel production for September this year.
JSW produced 733,000 mt of crude steel in the given month, decreasing by 3.9 percent compared to August. During September, JSW Steel produced 452,000 mt of flat rolled products, up 15 percent, while its long rolled product output amounted to 155.000 mt, increasing by 47 percent, both compared to the same month of the previous year.
In the first half (ended September 30) of the financial year 2012-13, JSW Steel produced 4.31 million mt of crude steel, increasing by 26 percent year on year.
According to JSW Steel’s statement, the company’s hot strip mill No. 2 was recently idled for an expected period of 21 days for a capacity enhancement project intended to boost the mill’s annual output capacity from 3.5 million mt to 5 million mt. The mill was restarted ahead of schedule on October 13. Due to the uprade project, in September this year the company’s flat steel production growth rate was behind its crude steel production growth rate .
