India's Ministry of Mines has announced the granting of approval to the country's leading steelmaker JSW Steel Ltd. (JSW) for the mining of iron ore and manganese ore in Jharkhand. The approval comes after JSW obtained a permit to search for raw material for its proposed $8 billion steel factory in the state.

The company will mine in an area of 999.9 hectares (2,471 acres) in Jharkhand for its proposed 10 million mt steel plant

Jharkhand is known to hold almost a fifth of India's total iron ore reserves.
